Good Wine

I'm not a wine expert. I don't read any wine magazines and I don't follow what's supposed to be good in a given year.

I do, however, know enough to know that a decent bottle, or even excellent, really, can be had for $10 or less. Since realizing that I've had a difficult time spending more than $10-$15 on a bottle of wine. (Superdad disagrees with me here, to an extent.)

Georges Duboeuf's 2005 Beaujolais Nouveau was brought to my attention last summer after receiving a case as a gift from my dad (thanks again, Dad!). He paid a ridiculously low price per bottle... $1.50 is what I think it worked out to.

My neighbors and I (and sometimes poor Superdad who always seems to be working during neighborhood cocktail hour) burned through the case this summer and it received rave reviews from all consumers.

I haven't scoped out its price per bottle recently namely because I keep falling into the best price (free!) because of a father who knows where to go to get a good price for a case and who seems to enjoy providing my neighborhood’s supply of wine, but I have to imagine it falls into my $10 or less criteria.

I've heard that a Beaujolais Nouveau is best consumed while it's young and also that Georges Duboeuf's 2006 Beaujolais Nouveau is set to hit the market any second, so keep your eyes peeled for this wine. It's yummy and I'm guessing fairly inexpensive, even by the bottle.

But does it come in a box?? Kidding - I just read that the 2006 is available now. Time for Jerry to go shopping.

One of the best wines ever. Taste is very subtle yet full, but not too acidic or bland like a lot a lot of (most) wines. My local purveyors had a big sign on the front door today announcing the arrival of the 2006 (coincidence?) At eleven dollars a bottle you cannot go wrong, I give it to my special guests.

Georges Duboeuf's 2003 Cru du Beaujolais (dry red, at the moment no vinegar) is now on sale at the International House of Wine and Cheese in Richmond, IL for $1.95 per bottle ... or about $1.75 per bottle if bought by the case. A bit more than my budget allows. I am somewhat miffed that it does not come in a box.

Thanks, I'll have to look for that...

Mom of 1 and I are copying our English friend's obsession with Aussie wines. Banrock Station's Merlot is her (and my new) favorite and we get it at Wal-Mart for $3.97 a bottle. A little too easy to drink. ;) She says it was much more pricey over the pond.
