Dashed Dreams

Is this not the very picture of sadness?

Today at the Audubon this,

the fire tower, was closed, making it impossible for the Hankster to climb to the top. It was closed the last time we were there. And the time before that.

Let's just say that Hank was looking forward to that part of the day.

You need to drive north to the Parnell tower. Really tall, often open, in good repair, and it's up on on of the Kettle Moraine's ridges, so you can see all the way to the lake, some 15 miles away.

We pass one on the way to Galena when we go that way. It hasn't been open for years. We decided it's probably due to liability issues. Bummers; it's just too doggone much fun for them to be missing out on!

Funny, I think I know where you're talking about, Melody. Is it at a rest stop on Hwy 20? Funny! I think I ate a picnic lunch there (and was yet unmarried and childless so didn't attempt or care about climbing fire towers ;) ).

Thanks for the tip about Parnell. I'm fine w/not having to climb all those stairs, but man, those kids were really disappointed!
